Short description | The body is strongly compressed and elongated, with a dorsal profile that is more convex than the ventral profile. The mouth is very large. Posterior dorsal and anal-fin rays are semidetached finlets; anterior parts of the second dorsal and anal fins are elevated, and the caudal fin is strongly forked. Head and body coloration is bluish grey above the lateral line, with a series of five to eight large vertically oblong spots. The body below the lateral line is silvery to brassy yellow |
